Kitchen Sink Installation in Scarborough
A new sink is one of those jobs that needs a licensed plumber from the start. For kitchen sink installation in Scarborough, we do the whole job: taking the old bowl out, connecting the supplies and the waste, and leak testing before we leave. Scarborough Same Day Plumbing also handles the tap, the laundry and everything else behind the cupboard doors, as part of the wider kitchen and laundry plumbing work we do.

From Old Sink Out to Leak Test
A new kitchen sink ties into six points: the hot and cold supplies each with an isolation valve, the tap, a basket waste, a trap and a waste line. The final step is a leak test across every joint. Here is what each piece does:
Isolation valves
one on each supply line, so the sink shuts off without turning off the whole house.
Basket waste
closes the drain opening in the bowl and carries the water down.
Trap
keeps a water seal against sewer smells coming up from the drain.
Supply connections
join the tap to the hot and cold lines under the bench.
Leak test
run the tap and pull the plug with the cupboard open, so nothing weeps behind closed doors.
Tapware, wastes and connectors we fit carry the WaterMark trademark and appear in the WaterMark product database, as Australian rules require for plumbing products.

Leaks Under the Sink and Around the Tap
Five places do the dripping: a leaking trap joint, the seal under the basket waste, the tap base, a supply join, and the seal between sink and benchtop. A drip you can see is the easy version. The signs of a slow one are quieter:
- a cupboard floor gone soft or stained;
- a sour smell in the cupboard with no drip visible;
- a tide line on the shelf or the floor under the fittings.
If your sink sits above a dishwasher, check the waste spigot as well, because a split hose there drips into the same cupboard. The hook-up steps for the machine itself sit on our dishwasher installation page, and the braided lines that fail most often under benches are covered by our flexi hose replacement page.

Who May Fit a Kitchen Sink in Queensland
Queensland law puts the plumbing connections with a licensed plumber, and what varies between jobs is the paperwork. Three categories cover a sink:
Notifiable work
a new or moved sink in an existing building. There is no council permit to chase, and we lodge a Form 4 with the QBCC within 10 business days of finishing the job.
Minor work
replacing an existing sink in the same spot. A QBCC licensee does it, with nothing to lodge.
Permit work
adding a fixture to a building on a combined drain or a dual reticulated water supply. We apply to the local government before starting.
You get your own copy of the Form 4, and the QBCC website lists licence holders so you can confirm ours. Renters need written sign-off from the owner or manager on a Form 23 before a fixture goes in, and that request should not be refused without reason.

Top-Mount or Undermount Sink
A top-mount sink drops in from above and rests on its rim over the cut-out, while an undermount sits beneath the benchtop and needs an exact cut-out, sealed with silicone. The choice changes the look and the fitting:
Top-mount
the rim covers the cut edge, which hides a rough cut, suits laminate benchtops and is the simpler fit.
Undermount
brackets or clips carry the bowl's weight from below, and the cut-out edge stays on show, so the finish has to be neat and waterproof.
Neither style changes the regulated connections underneath, so the licence and the Form 4 rules stay the same either way.

What Changes the Price of a Sink Job
The figure turns on five things: where the bowl sits, whether new water or waste points are needed, access under the bench, the benchtop material, and the tapware. Once we've seen the job, the figure comes back as a fixed quote before any work starts.
A straight swap into the old position costs least to change, because the existing points line up. Shifting the sink, adding a second bowl or changing the tap mix all add time and materials. A cramped cupboard in an older bench slows the work, and the quote carries that.

Sink Work Around Scarborough
Growth picks the jobs here. Estimated resident population around Scarborough rose 24.3% across the five years to 2025, and building approvals for the same area counted 518 new dwellings in 2021-22 alone, with 2,090 over five years. That many newer kitchens means plenty of original bowls reaching replacement age.
The older stock matters too. At the last census, 38% of homes were owned outright and 26.8% with a mortgage, so most sink jobs land on owners planning a refresh rather than agents between tenancies. Weatherboard houses on character streets like Landsborough Avenue and Mein Street often carry original benches, and a tap replacement rides along on the same visit.

Kitchen Sink Questions Scarborough Residents Ask
Call (07) 3523 6484Do I need a plumber to put in a kitchen sink?
Yes, the QBCC's guide for home owners classes fixing or replacing sinks as jobs a licensed plumber or drainer does. The sink never makes the short list a home owner may tackle, so the connections stay with a licensee.
Can I install a kitchen sink myself in Scarborough?
No, the supply and waste hook-ups are licensed work in Queensland. Only the short unregulated list, such as a jumper valve or washer on a tap, is open to a home owner with the right skills.
How do I check my plumber is licensed?
Search the QBCC's licence register by name or number, and you can also check whether a Form 4 has been lodged against the property. Ask for your copy of the form once the job wraps up.
Is a top-mount or undermount sink easier to fit?
A top-mount sink is easier. The rim sits on top of the bench and covers the cut edge, while an undermount hangs beneath the benchtop and needs a precise, silicone-sealed cut-out held by brackets or clips.
Does a dishwasher connect to the kitchen sink waste?
Yes, usually. The waste hose clips onto a spigot on the sink's waste pipe, so a replacement waste needs that fitting if a dishwasher shares the drain. The hook-up detail sits on our dishwasher installation page for Scarborough.
